 Roasted Salmon With A Twist
Weekly Dose Of Healthy Recipes: Roasted Salmon With A Twist

Ingredients

  • 5 (6 ounce) salmon fillets
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 oranges, sliced any way you like
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (pulp free)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Step By Step Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix the lemon pepper, garlic powder, and dried parsley. Stir.
  3. In a baking dish, place half the orange slices in a single layer, then place a layer of onion slices over the orange. Drizzle with olive oil and half of the herb mixture.
  4. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven, and roast for about 25 minutes. Remove the dish from the oven, and increase the temperature to 450 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  5. Make room for salmon fillets by push the onion and orange slices to the outer edge of the baking dish. Place the fillets in the center and season with the remaining half of the herb mixture.
  6. Mix the orange juice, lemon juice and honey in a small bowl, then pour evenly over the salmon fillets.
  7. Bake for another 15 minutes. Once done, remove fillets to a serving dish, and discard the roasted orange, but garnish the fillets with fresh orange slices.
And Voila! The delicious and stunning salmon fillets are ready to be served. We recommend serving it with some fine white wine to enhance the whole event.
Bon appétit!

Kosher 101: What Is It And Is It Healthy?

Kosher 101
Kosher 101: What Is It And Is It Healthy?
The kosher diet is more than just another diet – to the Orthodox Jews it’s a lifestyle. However, in recent years, people who do not practice the religion started consuming kosher products as they are, in some ways, better than ”standard” foods.
The Laws Of Kosher Dieting

The laws of the kosher diet include not eating any pork or shellfish, not mixing any meat and milk products, only eating certain kinds of meat, etc.

Dairy products that come from impure animals are prohibited (donkey milk, for example), while eggs are allowed if they don’t contain blood.

Only fish with scales may be eaten, and if you’re a fan of wine – prepare for searching for the perfect kosher winery.
How Is It Processed?

Kosher food is definitely healthy since it’s watched, screened, and processed more carefully than other food. There are strict rules to which the companies must abide, and their products are randomly screened.

For example, eating bugs is forbidden by dietary laws so all vegetables and fruits are carefully washed and thoroughly checked for any insects. Products (everything from snacks to meat) must have a symbol on the package, which certifies that the product adheres to kosher standards.

There are strict rules and standards which dictate which animals can be eaten and how they must be killed. This ensures less bacterial outbreaks in kosher facilities than in other, standard facilities. Animals are thoroughly checked by an authority before being killed, and they cannot pass the test if they have any diseases or wounds. Before being sold, the meat is salted which also reduces the chance of bacteria ending up on your plate.
Is Kosher Healthier?

All of this doesn’t suggest that kosher food products are healthier than non-kosher products, for a nutrition standpoint. Sugar and sodium can be found in these foods just as likely as in “standard” product. Also, kosher items are usually more expensive. Still, it’s a better choice if you have any food allergies or intolerances, because you always know what’s in your food.
